Meeting the Romanian Prime Minister, Mr Dacian Ciolos

Mr Dacian Ciolos, the Prime Minister of Romania, paid an official working visit to the Hague in order to strengthen the relations with the Dutch authorities and to highlight the progress Romania has done within the integration process asayoung member of the European Union and as an aspirant country to the Schengen Area.

Beside the diplomatic, official meetings, Prime Minister was keen to meet also the Romanian diaspora in the Netherlands. Representative of Stichting Barka- Larisa Melinceanu-used the opportunity to share good practices of Barka Network and shortly introduced to the Prime Minister the perspective of replicating in Romania the model/ concept based on social economy which was successfully developed in Poland, a country which had to heal from the same traumatic communism experience as Romania still does.

Prime Minister was pleased to hear about such initiatives which actually come to meet his vision about the important role of the Romanians living outside Romania. This was actually the key message he wanted to pass to the Romanian community in the Netherlands. There are already some official initiatives of creating a platform with the objective of facilitating the transfer of skills, expertise and contacts of the diaspora back to Romania, for the benefit of Romania’s development. Through this platform, there will be created communication bridges between the Romanian specialists from abroad and their counterparts in Romania, so that they can transfer best practices in various fields.

Prime Minister happily received from Larisa the book “New beginning – Social market economy” where Barbara Sadowska, the author of the book and the co-founder of Barka foundation, resumed 20 years of experience in the sphere of social entrepreneurship.

Visiting the “SfantaMacrina” Center, July 2015

By “SfantaMacrina” Center representatives of Barka: Larisa Melinceanu and Barbara Sadowska were welcomed by the priest Gabriel Cazacu, a young priest who succeeded to show a bright, warm side of Romanian Orthodox Church which in the last period is being confronted with a diminishing  trust among the parishioners in Romania. The priest presented the center he is running, a non –governmental organization which from 1996 is supporting children and young adults to reintegrate in the society through a daycare center (more than 100 children a day are getting lunch and are being helped in lessons), a residential care center which depending on age can be a foster care center (around 25 children) or a protecting house (for young people above 18 who are being motivated and sustained to continue their studies). Surprisingly, one of the center’s staff member recognized Barbara Sadowska whom she met a few years ago at a conference in Poland and who was now impressed by the important developments Barka Foundation went through  over the years. Priest Gabriel also embraced happily the model of self-sustaining communities Barbara was describing. “SfantaMacrina” Center is one of the partners of the project “Inclusive Europe – regional sustainable initiatives “.

Barka Foundation meets with the Romanian State Secretary Vasile Daniel, the president of National Agency for Roma people, Bucharest, July 2015

The visit  of representatives of Barka network : Barbara Sadowska and Larisa Melinceanuto Romania was a good opportunity to visit also other organizations in order to strengthen our connections in Romania in the benefit of Romanian migrants we support each year. We are therefore especially grateful to Ms. Georgeta Jucan, president of CRFPS Pro Vocatie, who facilitated our visit to National Agency for Roma people and to “Sfanta Macrina” Center, both situated in Bucharest.

At the National Agency for Roma people we were welcomed by the president Vasile Daniel who is also a State Secretary. Mr. Vasile Daniel listened to the vivid presentation Barbara Sadowska made in order to give a comprehensive picture of what Barka means and what Barka’s activities spread in a community’s reality. He informed us that just one day before our visit, the Romanian Parlament voted the law of social economy in Romania, law which maybe do not solve all the challenges in the field but which he trust it will be in time improved precisely by the good practices from this complex domain. Mr. Vasile Daniel also presented in short the agency he leads, a governmental structure which aims to represent the Romanians of Roma ethnicity at a national level, trying to harmonize the specific programs and projects developed in order to improve the situation of Roma people, most of them implemented by non – governmental organizations. He expressed his willingness of further collaboration. He thinks that the good practices already existing in Romania could be enriched by the good practices from Poland. Especially working in strategic partnerships took his attention.

A message for Easter Season…

(…) That is why we say to all: „Come and see!”. In every human situation marked by weakness, sin and death, the Good News is not just a word. It is a testimony of the selfless and faithful love. It is about going beyond oneself to meet the other and be close to those who have been hurt by life. It is about sharing with those who do not have what is necessary to live. It is about staying by the side of those who are sick, old or excluded. „Come and see!”. Love is stronger, love gives life, love makes the desert bloom with hope. (Pope Francis) Czytaj dalej
